Gynecology Overview

Austin Area OB/GYN offers a variety of women's health services. Our physicians are not only experts in the diagnosis and treatment of female disorders, but also a wide variety of medical, surgical and psychiatric problems. Your medical evaluation does not stop with a breast and pelvic exam.

Annual well woman examinations are the mainstay of good health. This includes both a physical exam and a gynecologic exam. Regular evaluation of your general health, breast examinations, pelvic exams and Pap smears increase the likelihood of detection of disease when it is most treatable.

Some of the gynecologic conditions we see on a regular basis include:

  • Benign and malignant breast disease
  • Pelvic pain
  • Menstrual disorders
  • Bladder and kidney infections
  • Ectopic pregnancy
  • Infertility
  • Sexually transmitted diseases
  • Post partum depression
  • Perimenopausal symptoms
  • Pelvic organ prolapse and urinary leakage

At the time of your well woman examination, abnormal findings can be further evaluated utilizing our in office diagnostic facilities:

  • Full service CLIA certified laboratory
  • Pelvic and breast ultrasound
  • Breast and endometrial biopsy
  • Colposcopy
  • Mammography
  • EKG
  • Dietary consultation
  • Bone density measurements.

The majority of gynecologic problems can be treated with conservative medical therapy, and AAOBGYN physicians will always recommend the most conservative approach to treatment.

However, sometimes attempts at non-surgical management do not adequately treat many conditions. Our surgeons have extensive surgical training and experience, and are consistently on the leading edge of minimally invasive procedures.

The majority of all surgical procedures can actually be performed in the office, often with minimal pain and at significant cost savings to our patients.

Examples include:

One of the ways our physicians stay on the forefront of gynecologic health is by participating in FDA clinical and surgical trials, and by participating as faculty in the University of Texas Medical Branch and Baylor College of Medicine surgical residency training programs.

Many patients start seeing our physicians at a young age for birth control pills and bladder infections, only to progress to pregnancy, permanent birth control, perimenopause and ultimately menopausal treatments.

Austin Area OB/GYN welcomes you to experience women's health care at its best!
